Latest update on East Riding of Yorkshire Council services : culture and information

Following the latest government announcement, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has issued an update about its services provided by its Culture and Customer Services team:

East Riding Libraries and Customer Centres : East Riding Libraries will continue to offer their 'Order and Collect' service - customers can either phone their library or order books online at library.eastriding.gov.uk, and then collect from their specified East Riding Library once available.

Books can be returned to any East Riding Library during opening hours and will be quarantined for three days before being cleaned and returned to shelves.

There is also an extensive online library available 24/7, of eBooks, audiobooks, magazines and local, national and international newspapers which can all be downloaded free with your library card. To join the library online (it's free) or find out more about downloading items from the online library, visit eastridinglibraries.co.uk.

Customer Service Centres are closed for public drop-ins to avoid unnecessary contact where possible. For residents needing essential customer service support, many answers can be found on the website www.eastriding.gov.uk or please contact the call centre on 01482 393939; if necessary, a face to face appointment can be arranged in an emergency situation. Please be aware that the volume of calls may be higher than usual.

The Mobile Library Service will continue to provide an order and collect service and customers of the "at home" service will still have their books delivered.  For any questions about the mobile library service, please call the mobile library team on 01482 392749.

Caddy liners are available to collect from East Riding Libraries and Multi Service Centres.

East Riding Archives: remain closed

East Riding Museums: East Riding Museums (Beverley Art Gallery, Beverley Guildhall, Goole Museum, and Skidby Mill) remain closed.

The Treasure House and café are also closed, but Beverley Library remains open for 'Order and Collect'.

The council is reminding residents that a range of online activities is available on the Active East Riding website : www.ActiveEastRiding.co.uk

The website is full of ideas and suggestions for people of all ages during this period when many of the council’s facilities are closed and people cannot socialise as normal.

For those who are having to spend more time at home, the council is encouraging people to discover things to do, to learn from and to take part in whilst there.

The site was originally launched during the first lockdown in April, and has been regularly updated ever since, with a range of activities and ideas.

Examples include:

  • Learn about free library book deliveries, from East Riding Libraries and the Tigers Trust for those who are isolating
  • Learn how to draw cartoons
  • Try out puzzles
  • Discover the East Riding Museums’ Ways to Wellbeing
  • Try Les Mills on demand, and enjoy workouts at home from East Riding Leisure
  • Explore East Riding Archives online, including the Photo Archives
  • Enjoy virtual visits to over 80 exhibitions online
  • Listen to podcasts from Beverley Art Gallery
  • Listen to eAudiobooks
  • Discover Sewerby Hall at home
  • Choose from a range of activities for children and young people of all ages.
