Who needs a real white Christmas?

Organisers at Beverley’s Flemingate shopping centre have commissioned award-winning artist, illustrator and cartoonist Calvin Innes to create an incredible winter wonderland scene across one of the centre’s shop windows.

Hull-based Calvin, who is also CEO of marketing agency Drunk Animal Creative Studio, will use only spray-on snow paint and a scraper to design the work of art which will take several days to complete.

He explains; “I’ve been involved in many large-scale art projects and have recently completed the ‘The Girl’ mural on a building at Hull College as part of community art initiative, The Shorelines Project. When I was approached by the team at Flemingate, the idea of using glass as my canvas presented an exciting challenge.

“It’s great to be back at Flemingate this Christmas following our involvement as designers of the Stars Wars-themed grotto last year. I’m really looking forward to creating a piece of art for the people of Beverley to enjoy.”

The artwork will come to life in the unit next door to Inflata Nation and passers-by will be able to watch the wintery scene take shape.

Jo Bridgeman, Flemingate’s marketing and events manager, said: “Christmas this year will be different so we wanted to create something special for people to enjoy whilst visiting Flemingate. We greatly admire Calvin’s work and were delighted when he agreed to do it.

“The window art will be in place until the end of January so there is plenty of time for visitors to come and see it, while enjoying the safe shopping experience here at Flemingate.”

Visitors to Flemingate are reminded to ensure they maintain social distancing and follow government guidelines.
