Championing Cultural Education

Graham Stuart MP encourages schools to champion cultural education

This week is Arts Council England’s Artsmark Celebration Week; a campaign that aims to shine a light on schools across the country who champion teaching arts and culture as part of a broad and varied curriculum.

14 schools in Beverley and Holderness are currently registered for Artsmark, four of which have been awarded either a Gold or Silver award. Molescroft Primary School in Beverley has been awarded a Gold Award for their commitment to promoting cultural education, while Beverley Minster, Keldmarsh and St Mary’s Primary Schools have all been awarded a Silver Award for their efforts.

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness said, “Giving our children the opportunity to learn and enjoy arts and culture subjects like music and drama helps develop their creativity and often their social skills.

“It can also inspire future careers and generally gives pupils a more well-rounded, fulfilling education.

“Artsmark Celebration Week ties in well with the Primary Futures campaign which I support in Parliament, as both shine a light on inspiring children to explore careers beyond what might be expected of them.

“I really welcome this opportunity to showcase the cultural education that many schools in my constituency offer, as well as the creativity and talent of young people up and down the country.”

Graham has written to schools in Beverley and Holderness to congratulate those who have already been recognised by Artsmark for their curriculum, and encourage more to sign up and get involved.

Artsmark is run by Arts Council England and supports schools to develop and celebrate their commitment to arts and cultural education. Artsmark Celebration Week runs from 7th-11th October.
