Parade Cycle Ride

Register your place to take part in the Parade Cycle Ride ahead of the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International

One hundred and fifty places are available to the general public to take part in a mass parade cycle ride ahead of the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International on Saturday, 21 September.

This is a chance for all to get involved in this inspiring day, with the unique opportunity to cycle part of the race route on closed roads through the Beverley Westwood just before the athletes depart.

The Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International will see around 60 athletes from every Paralympic road racing classification taking part in the race, which starts in Beverley and finishes in Harrogate

This will be the first time the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International will take place alongside the UCI Road World Championships, with the race also acting as a qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The athletes will leave Beverley’s Saturday Market and go through Bishop Burton, Market Weighton, Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, Foggathorpe and Bubwith before heading into North Yorkshire and the Harrogate finish line.

The Parade Cycle Ride will start from Saturday Market, at 11am, with those taking part riding on closed roads through the Beverley Westwood. From there, riders can then choose one of two spectator points along York Road to stop and watch the race.

Councillor Richard Burton, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The Parade Cycle Ride provides a unique opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to get out on their bikes and ride part of an international race route ahead of what is anticipated to be one of the greatest sporting spectacles ever seen in the East Riding.

“These para-cyclists are truly inspirational and I hope people will come out to show these athletes their support – not just at the start in Beverley but also in the towns and villages along the race route.

“We want to make this a celebration of cycling and with the fun and free events planned for Saturday Market there should be something for people of all ages to join in with.”

As well as the chance to see some of the world’s top para-cyclists, there will also be an extensive events programme, including stunt cycle teams, the chance for people of all ages and abilities to try out some weird and crazy bikes as well as having a go on a pump track where the bikes don’t require any pedalling!

Viking FM presenters Alex and Ellie will be on hand and live bands will be performing throughout the afternoon as well as a range of street entertainment and food stalls.

Registration opens on Monday, 2 September, at 10am. Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

There are 150 places available on a first-come, first-served basis. So register early to avoid disappointment.
