East Riding of Yorkshire Council has scooped an award in the prestigious Association of Public Service Excellence (APSE) Network Performance Awards 2018 - East Riding Leisure Beverley has won the Best Performing Leisure Centre Award for the seventh time.

East Riding Leisure Beverley has won the award after coming out on top in areas such as user numbers, opening hours and customer satisfaction. The complex has recently introduced virtual Les Mills RPM spin classes to complement its programme of instructor led classes.

This success follows the council being presented last year with the top honours for Best Service Team of the Year in Sports, Leisure and Cultural Services. Remarkably, this was the fifth time East Riding Leisure has won the Best Service Team of the Year in this category, having previously taken the trophy in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

APSE performance networks is the UK's largest voluntary data benchmarking service for local authorities, sharing information on cost, productivity, service quality and customer satisfaction across local council frontline services. For the annual awards, over 200 authorities submit data which is independently validated, and compared with other authorities to see how effective services are, and identify those authorities which have shown the best performance or biggest improvements.

Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “I know that East Riding Leisure Beverley is achieving great things locally and is very well thought after by our residents, but it’s especially rewarding to see their efforts recognised once again on the national scene.

“It was also very pleasing that East Riding Leisure Francis Scaife in Pocklington reached the final stages of the APSE Award nominations for the most improved facility. Well done to the team there as well!”
