Beverley Saturday Market’s renovation works have been completed, improving the pedestrian area and parking layout.
Funded by the Department for Transport, the £530,000 project has completed the final stage in improvements to make the area more accessible for pedestrians, especially those with limited mobility, and ensure parking areas are clear to visitors.
The works have installed new seating, bollards, planters, bins and a noticeboard, while retaining existing cycle stands and wooden benches.
A group of six blue badge holder spaces has been rearranged to allow better visibility and space for vehicles driving around the adjacent corner.
The full height kerb has also been removed and the existing block paving replaced with Yorkstone slabs to make the pedestrian area consistent with surrounding footways.
The existing block paving has been re-laid to ensure parking areas are clear to all and enable the inclusion of two further pay and display car parking spaces.
As part of the ongoing works, improved electrical power has been installed to support the market, and its lighting during the winter months.
Replacement lighting has also been installed for the Market Cross to highlight the historical features of this structure during darkness and special events.
