Television Stars to Help Celebrate Students’ Successes

TWO television stars will be handing out the awards to students at Bishop Burton College’s traditional end of year celebrations.

Presenters Helen Skelton and Jenni Falconer will be the special guests at the college’s Presentation Day events later this month, which will see around 1,000 students celebrate the successful completion of their studies.

Helen, who is famed for her roles with Blue Peter, Countryfile and the BBC’s Olympic Games’ coverage, will be the guest speaker at the first event on Thursday, June 27th.

One of Helen’s longest standing presenting roles on Blue Peter saw her take on incredible challenges – becoming only the second woman ever to complete the Namibia Ultra Marathon, breaking two Guinness World Records by kayaking over 2,018 miles down the Amazon River, completing a 66-metre high wire walk between the towers of Battersea Power Station and breaking more world records by becoming the fastest person to travel 100km by ski whilst travelling 500 miles across Antarctica to the South Pole.

Helen worked on London 2012 and Rio 2016, as well as presenting the World, Commonwealth and European swimming Championships. Most recently Helen has reported on numerous occasions for ITV’s topical programme Tonight. In 2018, she co-presented Big Week at the Zoo, celebrating the conservation work carried out by great British zoos, and Digging Up Britain’s Past, an archaeology series exploring fascinating periods in British history.

She will be presenting certificates and awards to students who have studied subjects including Agriculture, Animal Management, Equine and Engineering.

Prominent television and radio presenter Jenni will be the guest for the second event at the college on Friday, June 28th.

Jenni started her TV career at BBC1 Scotland, co-hosting adrenalin sports show The Big Country, before moving to ITV, where she presented several shows including 3D, We Can Work It Out and the highly popular GMTV.
Travel is a big passion for Jenni, having filmed shows such as BBC1′s Holiday programme, and How to Holiday, as well as regular travel features for GMTV. Jenni also presented several series of the successful Channel 5 property series, Fantasy Homes by the Sea. In 2006 she became the new face of The National Lottery.
In 2013, Jenni turned her hand to radio and has been commanding the airwaves ever since as Heart’s national presenter, driving the Early Breakfast Show.
Jenni is passionate about health and fitness and writes a monthly column for Your Fitness magazine, as well as having run many marathons.
Jenni is an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, The Children’s Trust and The Dog’s Trust and is also Patron of Breast Cancer 2000 and a supporter of Great Ormond St and CLIC Sargent.

She will be presenting certificates and awards to students who have studied subjects including Sport, Health and Social Care, Public Services and Business.

Bill Meredith, Chief Executive and Principal of Bishop Burton College, said: “I am absolutely delighted that both Helen and Jenni will be joining us to celebrate our students’ successes.

“They have both used their own professional success as national television presenters to help others with their charity work. Both are individuals our students can all learn from.”
