With days to go before Beverley is a festive glow of Victorian market stalls and street entertainment, visitors to this year's Festival of Christmas will again have the opportunity to travel to the popular event on Sunday, 9 December using public transport.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council are not only offering free parking for motorists on council-run pay and display machines on the day of the 10am-4pm event, but they are also organising a park and ride facility to anticipate large crowds looking forward to this fantastic day out.

Last year's event attracted over 55,000 visitors and there will be some road closures in the market town, so Beverley Racecourse (postcode HU17 8QZ) will be an extra place to park and then board one of the many buses heading to the festivities.

The bus service means that visitors will be there on time to see Santa and his reindeer ride the Christmas sleigh into Saturday Market at 10am, as the first bus will depart from the racecourse at 9am and run every 10 minutes to and from the festival centre.

The last bus to return to Beverley Racecourse will be at 4.25pm.

Ticket prices will raise good cheer too: an adult return will be £1 and children are free of charge. The buses also have new contactless ticket machines, meaning passengers can use Debit, Visa, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Cabinet portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Councillor Richard Burton, said: "The Festival of Christmas is one of the largest, busiest single-day events in our calendar - likely to be yet again a massive economic boost for Beverley - so we want to ensure that many people won't miss a minute of it.

"This is why we're organising this fantastic park and ride facility for visitors travelling from further afield who are eager to have a wonderful and memorable day out."

Visitors can expect all the trimmings this year: mulled wine, comforting Christmas food, artisan gifts, carols and much much more will make the mood a special one.

If a brisk, scenic walk to Beverley town centre is your thing, then it is only an approximate 20 minute walk from the park and ride.
