A European Community
The ability of musicians to travel in the 18th century can come as a surprise to us today but they were often on the move, and manuscripts were readily shared – not only with eager audiences - but with fellow musicians who copied, played and shared widely across Europe.
This programme wraps a series of engaging and flamboyant concertos by two of the greatest composers of the day, Vivaldi and Telemann, together with works by the Italian composers Nicola Matteis the Younger, and Brescianello.
La Serenissima is the UK’s most dynamic voice of Italian baroque instrumental music. Born out of director Adrian Chandler’s passion for Vivaldi, they bring well-known and neglected music to life through painstaking research, virtuosic performances and down-to-earth dialogue with audiences.
‘these musicians represent one heck of a crack team - bravissima, La Serenissima. Again!’ Gramophone
