Beverley and District U3A Monthly Meeting

Entertainment with Fools Gold

U3A is part of an international network of older people, usually over 50 and not in full-time employment, who meet together to learn from each other and to share interests and fellowship. From small beginnings in 1999 we now have over 500 members, and 40 specialist interest groups. Annual membership currently costs £15-00: this includes free admission to the monthly meeting, on the third Thursday of the month at 2-00pm in the Memorial Hall, Beverley (also includes FREE tea, coffee and biscuits). Guests pay just £1

Beverley U3A is a member of "The Humber Accord" - the other groups who are members are based in Cottingham, Hessle, South & North Cave, Swanland, Hornsea, Hull and Howden & District in East Yorkshire. The group AWAKE (drawing members from Anlaby, Willerby & Kirk Ella) is also a member of the Accord. Within agreed guidelines, members of one U3A within the Accord can take part in the activities of another.

U3A

... stands for "University of the Third Age". The term "university" in this context is taken to mean a community of people learning together purely for enjoyment: we do not ask for any qualifications, and we do not carry out assessments or make awards. The essence of the U3A educational philosophy is that members learn from each other and from direct experience, rather than being tutored by outside experts. Much of this learning takes place in the interest groups which are at the heart of any local U3A's activities. Members are always encouraged to start up new groups within their own areas of interest and expertise.

... we are members of the Third Age Trust, which is the parent body of all affiliated U3A branches. In this country there are now over 1000 U3A groups, with a total membership of around 320,000. Why not make it one more by joining us?
