1520: The Year St Mary's Church Fell Down

The Friend's of St Mary's Church invite you to a talk by Professor Barbara English MBE.

In April 1520 the tower of St Mary's fell into the nave during a Sunday service. many of the congregation were killed. Prof English, who taught history at Hull University, looks at life in Beverley and beyond in 1520, discusses the catastrophe of the fallen tower and outlines how the church was rebuilt within a remarkably short time.
