Drop-in on the opening day of this new exhibition to meet the artist and staff of the Gallery.
This series of photographic portraits of longstanding trades and crafts around the East Riding such as watchmaking and bookbinding sit alongside images of newer skills such as nail painting and computer repair. Some well-known Beverley faces appear, such as Colin Tatman, Peter Hall and Liz Parkin.
These contemplative portraits record the tools, skills and concentration at the heart of today’s manual production and show that the connection between thinking and doing, jeopardised by the production line, endures in such activities.
Peter Barker is an ex-Beverley resident and former Hull Town Clerk who has also been a diplomat, charity worker, yoga teacher and French translator! As you can see from the images, he is a very talented photographer, too.
