A local fostering agency, Orange Grove Fostercare has recently hosted online virtual concerts for its inspiring foster parents.

Orange Grove, who provide fostering services in Yorkshire, hosted a talented local singer, Brooke Sunlay, via two online concerts over the past two weeks to entertain and engage foster parents and to celebrate the entertainment industry, which has been suffering due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A UK Music report revealed that the music entertainment industry contributed £5.8bn to the UK economy in 2019, However, unfortunately, the pandemic dealt a catastrophic blow to the music industry in 2020/2021, with cancelled concerts depriving artists of money they would have spent on hiring studios to make new records.

The report predicted that musicians and songwriters would lose 65% of their income in 2020, rising to 80% for those most dependent on live performance and studio work.

As part of the online entertainment event, Orange Grove aimed to celebrate live music and local artists. Brooke, a singer who is based in Hull, accepted requests at the event, and sang a medley of classics to over 30 foster parents and staff at the fostering agency.

Craig Clark, Registered Manager for Orange Grove, commented: “This was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the entertainment industry and local talent we have here in Yorkshire. The pandemic has undoubtably had a huge impact upon the live entertainment industry and so we wanted to do something to help that.

“Brooke has performed before at some of our fostering events, and this seemed like a great opportunity to get her involved. Our amazing foster parents loved being part of this virtual event, and both nights ended with the foster parents and staff dancing and singing to hits from the likes of Lady Gaga, Adele, Abba and Dolly Parton, right from the comfort of their living rooms!

“This was the perfect way to celebrate and thank our inspirational foster parents and staff for their tremendous work and for the vital role they play in looking after some of our community’s most vulnerable children and young people.”

During the pandemic, Orange Grove has adapted to provide virtual support to their existing and prospective foster parents with home visits and assessments now being conducted virtually.

Orange Grove Fostercare is an independent fostering agency which currently takes care of 400 children across the South East, Midlands, North West and Yorkshire.
