The 27th European Open Beach Championship Returns To The East Riding Coast 2

A large stretch of the East Riding coast will for the 27th year welcome over a thousand anglers from the UK and abroad for the Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championship (EOBC).

The three-day beach fishing competition will take place from Friday, 6 to Sunday, 8 March, with the opportunity to compete for tackle and cash prizes out of a total prize fund of £35,000.

Anglers can take their beach spot anywhere between the north end of North Marine Promenade, Bridlington to Pilot Jetty at Spurn Point.

This year’s event HQ is sited at Sand-le-Mere Holiday Village, Tunstall (postcode: HU12 0JN), where tickets will be available between 12noon-9pm on the Friday and 7-9am on the Saturday and the Sunday from the EOBC ticket desk.

Advance tickets for competitors, which are in high demand, can be purchased via www.eobc.co.uk until Thursday, 27 February.

On Friday, 6 March the ever-popular warm-up Flattie Bash event will be held from 10.30am-2.30pm at Hornsea and Mappleton Beach, with entry at £10 per person (all classes, cash only) and registration, on the day, at Hornsea Floral Hall (from 8-10.30am).

The main championship starts at 9am on both the Saturday and Sunday of the weekend, and results and prizes are made available on both evenings at the event HQ. For competitors who don’t catch anything in size, the evening events are still a chance to meet other anglers, exhibitors and the Sea Angling Adventures team (YouTube channel).

Councillor Shaun Horton, portfolio holder for tourism, culture and leisure at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We are delighted at the opportunity to welcome back anglers from the world over for this wonderful three-day event on our coastline.

“Not only will we see a weekend of competitive angling for prizes from a generous prize fund, but there will undoubtedly be another huge economic boost for our local businesses which will accommodate competitors from countries such as Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.”
