Six for Beverley Town

East Riding Rangers 1-6 Beverley Town

Town travelled to the leagues bottom club looking to bounce back after last weeks narrow away defeat to Scullys.

Playing with the wind behind, Town took an early lead when a cross from wide left was handled in the box by the Rangers defender. Michael O’Connell stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past the diving keeper.

Despite the lead Town were struggling to keep the ball and passes were going astray, much to the teams frustration. East Riding equalised 10 minutes later when a shot/cross drifted over Mathew Spencer in Towns goal after Joe Norton had failed to clear the danger.

Town picked up the "if" game again, and Stu Oliver fired a 30 yard pile driver to the top corner, only to see it expertly saved by the Rangers keeper. On 27 minutes Town regained the lead when Alex Stark sprung the offside trap and calmly finished past the on rushing keeper.

Jordan Organ made it 3-1 ten minutes later with a fine header at the back post after some good work from Joe Norton down the right hand side.

Town started the second half much brighter, passing the ball nicely and taking more control of the game. East Riding keeper was in fine form, reacting to a couple of efforts from Jamie Mist and a tame effort from Joe Norton with his left foot.

Stu Oliver made it 4-1 with a fine header, and then made way for the returning skipper Nathan White who had been out for 4 weeks with injury. Not long after coming on White had a fantastic opportunity to score after some good work down the left, but unfortunately he couldn’t sort his feet out and his shot veered well wide of the goal.

Jez Hartley made it 5-1, with a fine header from a corner giving him his first goal for the club, and Michael O’Connell made it 6-1 just before the end with a fine drilled shot across goal into the bottom right corner.

Aldo Hysenaj came on and caused a lot of problems for the Rangers defence, but the game drew to a close and Town ran out comfortable 6-1 winners.

“I was pleased to get the result today, although East Riding are struggling a bit they always give us a good game and this could have been a potential banana skin for us. That said, first half we weren’t great, but still got in front. Second half we were much better and a lot more dominant, passed the ball better and could have scored a few more. We can now concentrate on the big game back home at Norwood next Saturday which everyone is really looking forward to.” Town Manager Rich Jagger.
