Walk In The Woods

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s countryside access team have organised more events this month to help residents make the most of their local area.

This Saturday (13 October) will see an Introduction to Bushcraft at Beverley Parks Local Nature Reserve (off Long Lane in Beverley) from 10am – 12.30pm. The event will be an introduction to some of the basic skills required to survive and thrive in the wilderness, including building an improvised tarp shelter. Discover tracking, natural navigation and foraging.

Saturday, 20 October will be a Fungi Foray at Eastrington Ponds Local Nature Reserve near Howden, from 10am -12.30pm. Enter the mysterious world of fungi and learn more about the crucial contribution they make to maintaining life on earth. Join mycologist Caroline Hobart on the annual autumnal foray to search for fungi on the reserve.

Sunday, 21 October will feature a Fungi Foray at Oakhill Local Nature Reserve in Goole (off Tom Pudding Way) from 10am – 1pm. Learn more about the fascinating world of fungi, and join mycologist Caroline Hobart on the autumnal exploration of the nature reserve.

Sunday, 21 October will also be the Holme Upon Spalding Moor Ramble from 10.30am – 1pm. This will be a chance to spend a Sunday morning exploring the footpaths around this pretty village, taking in the views from the top of Church Hill and enjoying the peace of the old rail trail. The walk will be around five miles.
