British Steel and East Riding College have signed an agreement for the College to provide professional health and safety training to the company’s employees across the UK.

The agreement confirms the delivery of a range of courses, including NEBOSH qualifications, the highest level health and safety qualifications in industry.

Mike Welsh, Principal and Chief Executive of East Riding College, said: “We’re delighted to be able to come to this agreement with British Steel and support training in an industry that is so important to our region, as well as manufacturing and infrastructure in the UK. British Steel is investing in training across the board, including high-level NEBOSH provision.”

The company will use the services of the College to deliver NEBOSH and health and safety training for managers and supervisors as well as NEBOSH construction certificates and fire certificates.

NEBOSH is the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, an independent awarding organisation providing qualifications in health, safety and environmental practice and management. The qualifications are recognised and sought-after world-wide. As a long-established accredited course provider for the delivery of professional health and safety qualifications, East Riding College is well placed to meet British Steel’s needs.

British Steel Deputy CEO Paul Martin said: “The health and safety of our employees is of paramount importance so we’re delighted an expert training provider like East Riding College will be delivering this service. The college’s trainers have an excellent reputation and I’ve great confidence this will further improve safety across our sites.”

East Riding College has the credentials to deliver, having come top of the class for employer satisfaction, rated as number one in Yorkshire and placed in the top 15 colleges nationally for employer satisfaction in a recent FE Choices survey.
