Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition proves popular again in 2018

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition – developed and produced by the Natural History Museum - is already proving very popular once again at Beverley Art Gallery.

The exhibition is open until Saturday, 8 September, making it an ideal trip out for the summer holidays. During the exhibition’s run, the Treasure House and the café are also open on Sundays.

The free exhibition reflects the 53rd year of the competition, which welcomes entries from professional and amateur photographers in three age groups. For the 53rd competition, the international judging panel of respected wildlife experts reviewed almost 50,000 entries from 92 countries.

Visitors can see 100 acclaimed photographs from all the competition categories, featuring a huge variety of inspiring images.

Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “ I am delighted that people are flocking to the Art Gallery once again this year to see this stunning and thought-provoking exhibition, which is not only enjoyable, but also gives real food for thought for young and old alike.”

There are also special events to accompany the exhibition:

Upcycled Sealife : workshops for children at the Treasure House with artist Michelle Reader : Thursday, 9 August : 10am to 12.30pm or 1.30pm to 4pm : a chance to make colourful fish or aquatic wildlife with Michelle, using cleverly upcycled plastic waste. For children aged 5-16. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are £12 per child / young person – there is no charge for adults accompanying children under eight. Places are limited, and booking is essential.

‘Wildlife of Northern India’ on Saturday, 1 September with award winning local photographer, Steve Race:  at the Treasure House from 2pm to 3.30pm will see Steve showcase a collection of images showing the incredible wildlife in this beautiful country. Tickets are £5 each, and booking is essential.

During the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, the Treasure House is also hosting ‘Snakes….a slither into a secretive life’, using taxidermy, skeletal mounts and award winning photography to delve into the captivating lives of snakes.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday : 9.30am to 5pm
Tuesday and Thursday : 9.30am to 8pm
Saturday: 9am to 4pm

Sundays : (15 July to 2 September inclusive) : 10am to 4pm

The café in the Treasure House will also be open :
