Beverley Tesco staff are joining the fight against cancer by taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

The motivated women, who work together at the Tesco store in Morton Lane, are set to pull on their trainers at Costello Stadium, Hull, on Saturday 7th July.

Together they are hoping to raise around £250 to help more men, women and children survive cancer.

Tesco Store Manager Chris Beamish said: “Race for Life is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to cancer. We can’t wait to join like-minded ladies committed to the cause as we unite against a disease that affects us all in some way.

“It’s so motivating to know the money we raise will help Cancer Research UK scientists and doctors find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease, helping save more lives.

“Our team is made up of 27 members of staff and we have committed to take part because we all know someone whose life has been touched by the disease.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy®, Half Marathon and Hiking events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding crucial research.

One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before. Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Emily Smith, Head of Events Marketing for Cancer Research UK, said: “We’re so grateful to

the Tesco team for signing up for Race for Life in Hull. Whether they plan to pound the pavements or amble to the finish line, every step participants take will help to support crucial life-saving research.

“Money raised through Race for Life is helping to drive research to help beat over 200 types of cancer – that’s why every person who shows their support can make a real difference in the fight against the disease.”
