Flower Festival Remembrance - Beauty from Chaos - 9-12 August 2018

Wed 30th May 2018
Beauty To Chaos

SSAFA the Armed Forces Charity have joined forces with St. Mary’s Church in Beverley to stage a spectacular professionally designed Flower Festival to Commemorate 100 years since the end of WW1.  They aim to celebrate 100 years since the formation of the Royal Air Force and most of all to give thanks for all the lives lost and effected by Military Service within our Armed Forces since then.  Even today our Military Personnel are deployed all over the world some helping Country’s cope with natural disasters like hurricanes to others dealing with day-to-day security to keep us safe.  All of this comes at a price with time away from families, and possible injuries and illnesses to cope with because of being in the Military.

Remembrance, Commemoration and most of all thanks will be spelt out in flowers and exhibits throughout the Church.  From a magnificent outdoors introductory title the visitor will be taken on a journey from the Battlefields of WW1 at Ypres and the Somme, be surprised by an exhibit representing the Cycles Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment.  Consider the fact that No. 47 Squadron RAF was formed in Beverley.  Moving on to the Blitz and all that meant to Hull and East Yorkshire. Admire the floral designs on the altars and choir stalls, see the efforts of women who helped during the war producing food and clothes for the nation.  Be amazed by the Remembrance gardens made by the children of the Church where poppies and wild flowers will be in evidence.  Then move on to Post WW11 conflicts and remember the Falklands, Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan.  Take a rest at the Drum Head Service and admire the art and decorated pillars before moving on again, all the time listening to music created to lighten the spirit as well as poetry readings at various times.

Now it is hoped the presentations will have captured enough of your imagination to make you want to visit the Festival.   However, there will be much, much more including Charity stalls and refreshments in the Parish Hall.

Look out for Posters, fliers, more articles, Press releases as the event moves ever closer.
