The Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championships will take place from Friday, 15 to Sunday, 17 February 2019.

With a record number of competitors contesting the event in 2018, it is anticipated that interest will be high for next year’s championships.

The event HQ will again be at Sand Le Mere Holiday Village, near Withernsea, with fishing from the north end of North Marine Promenade, Bridlington, to the Pilot Jetty at Spurn Point.

Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “The feedback we have received about the 2018 event has been very positive and EY Events, as the competition organisers, is already gearing up for next year’s contest.

“The Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championships is one of the most eagerly anticipated competitions on the angling calendar and sees competitors’ locally, nationally and internationally taking part, including from Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands.

“As well as being an exciting three days of fishing, the event helps promote the East Riding as a tourist destination and benefits the local economy to the tune of almost half-a-million pounds.

“Next year’s championships will be here before we know it and I would urge those who would like to take part to save the dates and plan their visit in advance to avoid disappointment.”
