Young musicians from the East Riding take centre stage

Young musicians from East Riding schools have been invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Wednesday 13 November as part of the national Festival of Music for Youth.
The East Riding schools’ music service Senior Percussion Ensemble is to take part in a lunchtime concert in the prestigious Elgar Room entitled ‘Spotlight on new music.’
The group was invited to take part after an impressive performance at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham, home of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, in July.
They will be playing two pieces composed by members of the ensemble, Connor McAteer and Liam Constantine.
As part of the Schools’ Prom concert, taking place that evening, the East Riding musicians have also been invited to sing as part of the finale in a massed performance in the main hall. All the ensemble members attend East Riding schools.
Peter Walker, deputy head of the East Riding schools’ music service, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity for our young musicians to perform on a national stage and to showcase the wealth of musical talent that is present in East Riding schools.”
The schools music service has entered the National Festival for a number of years, with a high degree of success. In July this year, both the Senior Percussion and Jazz Orchestra were invited to perform in Birmingham following the regional festival in March.
