Wuthering Heights at East Riding Theatre

Wuthering Heights

‘Wuthering Heights’ will be the latest production by The John Godber Company to be staged at the East Riding Theatre, and is sure to be a gothic treat this November!

The production is not only a celebration on the novel, which is 170 years old this year, but is also a scheme by the John Godber Company to give work to graduating actors. Graduates from drama schools can often struggle to get a first job, having no prior experience outside of University, and so, for this production the John Godber Company has given all of the roles to 2017 graduates of northern drama schools: Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts (LIPA), and the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA North), in an effort to give these young actors a “leg up” into the industry.

The cast is made up of LIPA graduate Duncan Riches, and ALRA graduates Lauren Sturgess Sorcha Macaffrey, Lamin Touray, and Alex Bailey, and the show is being designed by OCHO designer Lucy Weller, who has previously worked at the National Theatre and the Royal Court, with help from another local design graduate.

The show is written and directed by ‘The Kings of Hull’ actress Jane Thornton, and like with ‘The Kings of Hull’, the company are rehearsing in Armstrong House at Flemingate, and again the actors have been soaking in the local landscape and visiting restaurants, shops and cafes across Beverley as well as, most recently, touring the Minster, describing the town as ‘completely beautiful’.

‘Wuthering Heights’ runs from the 2nd November until 18th November.
