Wood Carving Edit

Traditional wood carving and woodland craft workshops will be happening in the coming weeks, giving participants a chance to learn more about these skills in peaceful woodland surroundings.

On Saturday, 21 May and Sunday, 22 May, there will be a chance to come along to Humber Bridge Country Park Local Nature Reserve to take part in an outdoor wood carving workshop.

A broad introduction to wood carving in green timber, participants will learn to use wood carving chisels with a mallet, on a piece of ash wood which fell in the February storms. Professional sculptor Saffron Waghorn will be teaching small groups in this fascinating craft. No previous experience is needed, and all timber and tools are provided. Participants should bring a packed lunch, wear shoes or boots (no sandals) and dress for the outdoors. The workshop will run between 10am and 4pm. Tickets are £25 per person.

To book, visit www.eastridingcoastandcountryside.co.uk/whats-on, or call 01482 395320. For more information, email countrysideaccess@eastriding.gov.uk

For those who would like to learn more about woodcarving, come down to Millington Woods Local Nature Reserve on Saturday, 28 May between 10am and 3pm to see traditional woodland crafts set among glorious bluebells and ramsons.

Watch wood turner Graham Tucker and wood carver Saffron Waghorn demonstrate their amazing and precise skills, using fallen local timber. There is an opportunity to ask about their work.
