Wildlife welcome on village sportsfield

Barn Owl

A Barn Owl Nest Box has been erected on the perimeter of the Cherry Burton sportsfield in the hope that this will attract birds and therefore encourage more biodiversity in the area.

The Barn Owl box has been sponsored by York Bird of Prey Centre.

In addition to the Barn Owl box the Cherry Burton Scouts have built a Tawny Owl nest box and erected it on the perimeter of the sportsfield and there are plans to erect a second Tawny nest box in the coming weeks.

Wild flowers are also encouraged around the perimeter with bluebells, primroses, cowslips and snowdrops adding colour in the spring, while summer flowering wild flower seeds were sown in the autumn.

Efforts to improve the ecology of the sportsfield will continue with plans already in place to install small bird nest boxes over the next 12 months.
