Many people have wondered why the cycling event taking place in our area at the beginning of May is called The Tour de Yorkshire, and not the Tour of Yorkshire.

We have the answer!

The Tour de Yorkshire race is owned by the ASO, the Amaury Sports Organisation, a French company based in Paris. It therefore has a French name and some of the key climbs have been given a French name, as a nod to the French origins of the race.

The race will be broadcast on a UK television channel - a mixture of highlights and live coverage - an announcement will be made soon. The race will also be broadcast on Eurosport and will be shown by 70 countries around the world.
