Try your hand at calligraphy

Fri 2nd May 2014
Treasure House Tower Jpg

Visitors to the Treasure House in Beverley on Monday 12 May will have a chance to try their hand at calligraphy and discover more about this fascinating art form.

There will be a display of calligraphy by the Wyke Scribes Calligraphy Group. Calligraphy is the art of ‘beautiful writing’ or the written word as art, and has been practised by many different cultures around the world throughout history.

The documents held by East Riding Archives include some wonderful examples of calligraphy. The Wyke Scribes Calligraphy group has visited the Treasure House and each member has taken inspiration from the historic documents to produce their own calligraphy work. The event will feature their work displayed alongside the priceless historic documents that inspired them.

There will be a chance for adults and children to have a go at calligraphy and learn more about it. No experience is needed and all materials will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This free event will be held at the Treasure House in Champney Road from 6pm to 8pm. For more information, please ring 01482 392790.
