The Wonders of the World are in Beverley.

Wed 7th July 2021
Brick Wonders 9 Medium Jpg

East Riding Museum's ‘Brick Wonders’ exhibition, curated by artist Warren Elsmore, opened at the Beverley Art Gallery on Saturday, 3 July and will be running until Saturday, 2nd October, 2021.

It was no surprise that all the available viewing slots had been taken for the opening day as the exhibition will be a hit with both adults and children alike. The exhibition has also sold out for the next two Saturdays 10th and 17th July. (Check on the day if they have any cancellation slots).

Brick Wonders is an exhibition of features from around the world recreated in LEGO® bricks. As you safely move around the exhibition, the detail, the imagination, and the creativity of the exhibits leave you in amazement, with the largest of exhibits leaving you wanting to go and explore the real thing.

As we look to move out of restrictions soon and focus on our world, this exhibition gives you time to reflect on nature and on the world we have created. With works of an Egyptian pyramid, to the wonders of the Australian natural beauty, to everyday wonders such as the Internet.

The Great Barrier Reef is the centrepiece with sound effects. Warren Elsmore has recreated everything you would expect to see if you were fortunate enough to be able to explore the reef, the centre piece brings everything to life.

Councillor Mike Medini, Portfolio Holder for Cultural and Leisure Assets, said: "It is very exciting that we are able to bring the wonders of the world to Beverley, to inspire people as we come out of lockdown, to appreciate our world, and perhaps visit these incredible places. This is an exhibition that will be of interest to both parents and children and hopefully inspire them to make creations of their own".

Helena Cox, Beverley Art Gallery Curator, mentioned "The timing of the exhibition could not have been better as it has come at a time when people are looking for inspiration. Whilst it has been 2 years in the planning, as families are looking to do more with their children, this is an exhibition which ticks all the boxes for young and old to enjoy, explore and create wonders themselves with normal LEGO®  brick, an exhibition for all the family to enjoy.

If you want to see the exhibition at the Beverley Art Gallery, it is located in the Treasure House in Champney Road. Admission is free but you must book online in advance or on the day.
