Tech-savvy innovators wanted for Humber Care Tech Challenge

People with a flair for innovation and technology are being invited to take part in a competition to come up with ideas to help vulnerable adults by improving healthcare and wellbeing in the home.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council, in partnership with the University of Hull and the four Humber NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups, are looking for teams to take part in the first Humber Care Tech Challenge.

The aim of the competition is for teams to design and develop new, innovative technology-based solutions to help keep vulnerable adults in their homes for longer, therefore helping to reduce pressures on the council and NHS.

The competition will take place at Bridlington Spa on 5-6 September and is open to any members of the public from across the Humber region who are over the age of 18 as well as businesses.

While the Humber Care Tech Challenge is a team competition, individuals can also apply but they will be given a group to join in with before the start of the event.

The winning teams will receive support from mentors from Amazon, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, as well as the University of Hull to help bring their ideas to market and help make a difference to people’s quality of life.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, deputy leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The Humber Care Tech Challenge provides the opportunity for young and old to bring about intelligent innovation in our local area.

“Helping improve quality of life within the home helps relieve the financial pressure that care costs create for both the council and the NHS therefore ideas from the public are helping to provide a valuable sense of independence while also allowing the council and the NHS improve other areas.

“We want to showcase what people from the Humber region can do to care for its own and others who need it.”
