Students at East Riding College are learning about the benefits of volunteering at events this week.

Volunteer fairs are being held at the Beverley campus on Tuesday, with a range of organisations attending to highlight opportunities to learners.

This includes the British Heart Foundation, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Macmillan Cancer Support, National Citizen Service, Bridlington Lions, the Scouts, International Services and Health Watch.

Enrichment officer Tracy Underwood, who organised the fairs, said: “Volunteering has always been a great thing to do to help charities and your local communities but in recent years it has become important in others ways.

“More and more employers and universities expect to see this kind of activity on your CV or university application, so we are very keen to encourage it.

“We also have a range of guest speakers from local volunteer agencies who regularly visit and meet with students to explain the values and skills gained by helping out.”
