Mayor of Beverley welcomes the First Beverley Pride.

Fri 4th August 2023
Statement From The Mayor Of Beverley

This Saturday marks the first ever Beverley Pride. This is a landmark occasion, celebrating and shining a light on our LGBTQ+ community. I wish to convey my best wishes to the organisers and thank them for all their efforts in making this event the success I’m sure it will be.

Pride is as important now as it was 51 years ago when the first pride march was held in the UK. While we celebrate Pride, it’s important to remember there so much work left to do, we can continue the work of previous generations by creating a safe space through affirmation and understanding. Pride allows a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community to be themselves and where both people part of the community and allies can come together. Together, we can create a community where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be their true, authentic selves.

Beverley Town Council is proud to support the LGBTQ+ community with the flying of Pride flags. This, now annual tradition, is a visual demonstration of the council’s commitment to being a trusted ally and encouraging a safe, welcoming community, whereby everyone can be themselves without fear of being isolated, discriminated, bullied, or harassed.

I wish everyone a happy and safe Pride.
