Saturday Market clean-up

Fri 13th June 2014

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will  be cleaning down all the roadways and footpaths which were included in the 18-month project to improve and revamp Saturday Market.

Starting on Monday evening (16 June), council staff will work to clean the area  from around 5.30pm until around 11pm, in an operation which is expected to last for three evenings.

The council’s director of environment and neighbourhood services, Nigel Leighton, explained: “We deliberately phased the work over 18 months to ensure we were able to maintain access to key areas of Saturday Market at all times. It is inevitable after a major construction scheme of this nature and length that the roads and footways included will require a good ‘clean down’ to remove any remaining dust and detritus following the work, and I am pleased that we will be able to do this next week.”

The council is advising people that some footpaths may be closed temporarily during the cleaning operation, but that access will be maintained to all areas of Saturday Market.

Before the cleaning work begins, minor remedial repairs are being carried out this week to repair a drainage gully near the TSB bank, and a power supply duct near the King’s Head pub.
