Rumi's had a surprise visit on Saturday evening from non other than George Shaw of The Asian Curry Awards! Rumi's has been nominated as a contender for this year's awards, which will be presented at a glittering ceremony in London by Natasha Kaplinsky.

Sham Alom, Rumi's manager and chef, has no idea who has nominated the restaurant, except to know that it was someone from the south. He also knows that Rumi's is the only restaurant in the locality currently being considered.

Sham said 'I had to cook several dishes for George - 3 from the current menu and 4 dishes which are not on the menu. One of the dishes I had never prepared before so it was a bit of an experiment! But the food was really well accepted and all those new dishes will go onto our next menu.

" It's so nice to have been recognised. We are sat here in Beverley, in a small town, and there are people talking about us!"

Sham is hoping Rumi's is in with a good chance as George tweeted the following after his visit - 'Remarkable cooking at Rumi's restaurant'.
