Remember to register to vote

Tue 7th April 2015
Town Council Elections 2

Residents are reminded to make sure they are on the electoral register so they do not miss out on the chance to vote.

On Thursday 7 May the combined Parliamentary, local and parish elections will take place in Beverley, but people need to be registered in order to have a say.

The deadline for people to register so they can vote in the May elections is Monday 20 April and registration can easily be completed online by going to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Nigel Pearson, acting returning officer at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “It is important that people are on the electoral register so they have the chance to have their say on issues that affect their lives. Also, being on the electoral register can help improve people’s credit rating.”

Registered electors will receive poll cards but people are reminded they do not need to have a card in order to vote – they can just attend their local polling station and give their name and address in order to be issued with a ballot paper.

Residents are also able to request a postal vote and a form can be found at http://www2.eastriding.gov.uk/council/elections-and-voting/elections/information-for-voters/postal-vote-packs/

The last day for requesting a postal or proxy vote is Tuesday 21 April.
