Pupils given Flemingate input

Fri 1st August 2014

St Nicholas Primary School pupils have been given the opportunity to have a direct input into the Flemingate regeneration scheme.

The pupils, some of whom are as young as four years old, have been taking part in the Future Me project, producing artwork which will be displayed on hoardings around the site and at an exhibition in Beverley.

All 330 pupils of the school, which is adjacent to the development, have been working working with arts consultant Elaine Burke and artist Simon Crook, who taught the pupils how to draw cartoon-style self-portraits of how they see themselves in the future.

The initiative has been organised in association with developers Wykeland.

Elaine said: "The aim of these projects is to take an innovative approach to making a positive impact on children and young people. Wykeland is keen to support the aspiration and potential of the next generation and this project is an excellent example of how companies can use art to engage meaningfully with communities."
