People who are considering taking the step up to higher education can find out more about business and public services courses at East Riding College next month.

Open evenings will be held in Beverley on Monday 8 June and Tuesday 9 June for the Higher National Certificate in Business and the Higher National Diploma in Public Services, both from  4pm  until 7pm.

Nicola Cooper, head of leisure and business at the College, said: “These open events are an excellent opportunity to meet our tutors and talk to them about what these courses entail and where they could lead you.

“The business course is a great way to learn the key skills which are essential to running your own business or working in a business environment and the public services qualification aims to give learners an advantage when applying to enter the public services, which can be fiercely competitive.”

The business course is ideal for people who would like to work in a business environment and want to advance their career, and for people who run their own business and want to equip themselves with the skills and knowledge needed to make it successful.

Topics include managing financial resources and decisions, advertising and promotion, the internet and e-business, and business ethics.

The public services course is aimed at people who are considering a career in the public services, such as the police or fire service, and would like to gain an insight into the supervisory and management responsibilities of those working in these areas.

Subjects studied include justice and punishment, personal outdoor skills, custodial care, physical activity, lifestyle and wellbeing, and emergency planning.
