A community transport charity for the elderly and disabled in Beverley is set to benefit from a new minibus after receiving a cash donation from a Yorkshire housebuilder.

Beverley Community Lift, who have been serving East Yorkshire for nearly 50 years, received £1,000 as part of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme.

The mobility charity provides a door-to-door service for the elderly, disabled or those living in rural areas. Whether it’s for medical appointments, trips to the supermarket or simply visiting friends, the community transport services ensures passengers travel safely and in comfort.

Denise Sowden, from Beverley Community Lift, said: “We are so grateful to Persimmon Homes. We operate a fleet of vehicles for residents in Beverley, Pocklington, Cottingham and Market Weighton.

“We had to sell one of our minibuses, it was old and repairs were getting costly. We have been fundraising for a new minibus and have nearly reached our fundraising target, so Persimmon Homes’ donation is a great boost.”

The Community Champions scheme sees that each month Persimmon Homes donates up to £2,000 to community groups across its 32 geographical operating areas.

This means up to £64,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £768,000 a year, and more than £2million since the scheme started back in 2015.

Tim Nixon, head of sales at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “The Community Champions scheme is all about supporting the communities where we are building and with developments in Hull and Cottingham, the Beverley Community Lift seemed like a perfect choice.”

Persimmon Homes latest development Castle Hill Grange in Cottingham has recently opened its showhome and features a collection two, three and four-bedroom homes.
