Events at Eastrington Ponds; Millington Wood; and Oakhill Nature Reserve

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Countryside Access Team have arranged three fun events at various locations to learn more about bats.

Bat Watching : Eastrington Ponds Nature Reserve, Howden Road, Eastrington, Goole: Tuesday, 29 August : 7.30pm to 9pm

This tranquil reserve is a great place to watch bats after dusk – see pipistrelle bats over the small meadow, and Daubenton’s bats over the pond.Listen to their echolocation calls on bat detectors with the East Yorkshire Bat Group and the Countryside Access team.

Tickets must be booked in advance, and cost £3.50 for adults; £2.50 for Seniors aged 60 and over; Under 16s £2.50; and family tickets (two adults and two children) £9.

Autumn Bat Survey : Millington Wood Nature Reserve, Wood Gate, Millington : Saturday, 2 September: 10am -12noon

A chance to survey bat boxes with the East Yorkshire Bat Group and the Countryside Access team.

Stroll around the wood and look at the bats which roost in the boxes during the day. Licensed bat workers will inspect the boxes and briefly hold the bats – view the bats from a distance of around two metres. As with all wild creature events, sightings are not guaranteed.

Flittering bats and fluttering moths : Oakhill Nature Reserve, off Tom Pudding Way, Goole: Thursday, 7 September : 7.30pm – 9pm

See bats flying and hunting at Oakhill Nature Reserve. Listen on bat detectors as they navigate around trees, and above hedges and waterways. Gather round the bright moth light and marvel at moths. Join the Countryside Access team, the East Yorkshire Bat Group, and lepidoptera specialist Ian Marshall for this special evening.
