With The Beverley Festival of Christmas approaching, on Sunday, 10 December, people wanting to visit the event are being encouraged to consider using public transport.

Running from 10am-4pm the event will see some road closures in the town and, with 60,000 visitors last year, parking spaces are expected to be limited.

As such, the council has organised for a park and ride facility to run from Beverley Race Course on the Westwood. Buses will run every 10 minutes to and from the town centre, charged at £1 return per adult and children going free of charge.

The first bus will be departing from the race course at 9am and the last bus returns at 4.25pm. Signs promoting the service will be located along main roads into the town.

Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The Beverley Festival of Christmas is one of the most popular events on the calendar and planning in advance can help ensure you make the most of the experience.

“From seeing Santa and his reindeer at the parade, from Wednesday Market to Saturday Market, at 10am to buying a festive bargain from more than 130 local market traders there really is something for everyone.

“This year’s event is also anticipated to set a record for the number of coach trips organised for the event, with 80 vehicles brining people from far and wide.

“The festival has a huge economic boost for Beverley, anticipated to be worth around £1 million.”

The event offers a wide selection of traditional Victorian Christmas market stalls selling a mixture of colourful crafts, festive gifts and specialty seasonal foods. These will be situated in Wednesday Market, Saturday Market, North Bar and Flemingate and activities, fairground rides and entertainment in between.
