IT'S TRUE, IT'S TRUE, IT'S TRUE: BREACH THEATRE'S ACCLAIMED HISTORICAL DRAMA COMES TO EAST RIDING THEATRE

Fri 18th October 2019
Breach Its True Credited The Other Richard

Winner of Untapped, The Stage and The Scotsman Fringe First Awards at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018, part of British Council Showcase 2019

Courtroom drama based on the case of the rape of Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi in 1612

Following a sold out return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2019 as part of the British Council showcase, Breach theatre’s all conquering Untapped, The Stage and Scotsman Fringe First award winning production It’s True, It’s True, It’s True will now head on a UK tour stopping at the East Riding Theatre on Saturday 26 th October.

The production is based on transcripts taken from the 1612 trial of Agostino Tassi, who was accused of raping fellow painter Artemisia Gentileschi while he was tutoring her at her father’s house.

Sticking closely to the original research but using modern language and featuring an all-female cast, It’s True, It’s True, It’s True tells what, at first, seems like an archaic tale of female empowerment in the face of ostracization by a male-dominated society. But as the trial progresses and testimonies of situations all-too familiar to a twenty-first century audience begin to emerge, we’re left asking how much has really changed in the past 400 years?

The production was one of the undisputed hits of the 2018 and 2019 Edinburgh Festivals - at the vanguard of the cultural aftershock of the #MeToo movement which rippled strongly throughout. Its London premiere was also sold out and gained similar critical acclaim.
