Hullywood Icons come to Beverley this Saturday!

Wed 11th January 2017
Hully 1

Look out for familiar faces as you watch Quentin Budworth's inspired Hullywood Icons between 6pm and 8pm inside Beverley Minster and inside St Mary's Church on Saturday January 14th. Both churches will show the pictures of local people recreating famous scenes from Hollywood films photographed by Quentin in Hull, on a loop. Quentin himself will be available between 6 and 7pm in Beverley Minster and from 7pm in St Mary's.

The idea of the project came from a simple play on words. East Riding based Quentin told Just Beverley:

"I'd been thinking about using Hull as a movie-set and playground for making work both as a creative space and an exhibition space - but I wanted to involve the people of the area as both participants and collaborators in a playful way. Turning Hull into Hollywood has allowed the creation of photographs which people have enjoyed making, looking at and engaging with. Showcasing the work as part of the 'Made in Hull' opening event for City of Culture 2017 makes perfect sense and now we take it around the East Riding.

'Many of the icons are from the East Riding so you will see people that you recognise! If, after watching the photographs, anyone feels inspired to recreate a scene themselves, they should come for a chat with me. There are plenty of films out there! J Arthur Rank was from Hull and there are so many of his films which could be recreated. Or what about all of those 'Carry On' films?'

The Hullywood Icons project has caught the imagination of many people nationally and internationally. It has been featured on national news, in The Times and The Telegraph and in the Los Angeles Herald, which is the Hollywood paper!

The project has been sponsored by The Arts Council Grants for the Arts, Hull City of Culture and East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Zebedee Budworth created the soundtrack and Chris Broadwell and Tim Wall are responsible for projection logistics. But special thanks must go to the Hullywood Icons themselves! Could you be one?
