Beverley's Holly Bentham was crowned British School's Judo Champion at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield at the weekend.

The Longcroft School pupil, who trains at the East Yorkshire Judo Academy which is based at Beverley Leisure and is sponsored by Coles the Solicitors, was fighting in the under 70kg category against tough opposition.

Having fought through 3 rounds to gain her place in the final, Holly then found herself up against long time rival and England Cadet Squad colleague, Amy Baker.

After a tense opening two minutes of the final, Bentham sprung forward taking her opponent crashing backwards onto the floor to gain the opening score. However not content with this Bentham quickly rounded, grabbed her opponent placing on a devastating arm lock which led to an almost immediate submission, thereby handing Bentham the gold medal and the title of British Schools Champion 2016.
