Graham Stuart to hold final 'Save Our MIU' rally of 2016 in Beverley this weekend

Save Our Miu Petition Presentation To Jane Hawkard December 2016

This Saturday Graham Stuart MP will attend the third of three winter rallies organised to promote the “Save Our MIU” campaign.  Together with Beverley Mayor Councillor Rob Begnett, he will be speaking to protestors about why it is so important that the Minor Injuries Unit at East Riding Community Hospital remains open.

The rally follows successful events at Hornsea and Withernsea Hospitals and follows last Friday’s Save Our MIU petition presentation to Jane Hawkard, the Chief Executive of East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group, at her HQ in Willerby.

Speaking ahead of the rally, Graham said, “Amid the Christmas build up I hope people in Beverley will take the time to join Saturday’s rally and show their support for saving our Minor Injuries Unit here at East Riding Community Hospital – a brand new facility which offers outstanding care for people living in and around our town.

“When the chips are down and you need access to urgent care, our MIUs do a great job and constituents have been sending me a regular stream of stories about how they have benefited from their care.  It would make no sense whatsoever for Beverley’s Minor Injuries Unit to close but that is one of the options East Riding CCG are considering as we speak – together with their closure plans for the MIUs in Hornsea and Withernsea, which don’t have the support of local GPs and which we’re fighting so hard to overturn.  Let’s send a big message this weekend that these plans must be rethought.”

The rallies come as Graham encourages his constituents to write in to the consultation being held by East Riding CCG about its proposed programme of MIU closures, which is running until mid-January.  Graham is urging people not to use the response survey, which offers no opportunity to comment on the full range of changes being made, but instead to send in the letter which he is delivering to households across Beverley and Holderness, or to use that letter as a template.  The letter can also be accessed via  http://www.grahamstuart.com
