Graham Stuart Mp Supports Transformation Of Longcroft School And Sixth Form

Local MP Graham Stuart visited Longcroft School and Sixth Form, to see for himself the amazing progress the school has made, and to show his support for their exciting vision to provide an excellent education for pupils in Beverley.

During his visit, Graham had an insightful Question and Answer session with representatives from Years 7-13 who told him about their exciting goals for the future and how their teachers are preparing them for these. One pupil in year 9 said that they wanted to read Geography at university and that she had been on a school trip to Cambridge University to help her achieve her goal. A year 10 pupil told Graham of their dream to be a guitarist.  They won last year’s Battle of the Bands and played at the Christmas Lights Switch On in Beverley in December so Graham can’t wait to see them sell out stadiums!

Graham also saw the talents of pupils in a range of subjects when he visited their science and art lessons. He heard from students enjoying their chemistry lessons and was very impressed with the art portfolios of pupils as they prepared for their upcoming GCSE exams.

Having been involved from the early stages in brokering the partnership between the East Riding Local Authority, Wonder Learning Partnership Trust and the school, Graham knows all about the Longcroft journey and has played a key role in its success. He heard how grateful the school is for the Local Authority’s support in facilitating this partnership and in doing so investing in the school and community.

There is now an exciting opportunity to secure the long-term future of the school by becoming a full member of Wonder Learning Trust and further develop partnerships within the locality. This will ensure that the great outcomes achieved to date form the foundation for sustained excellence, and Graham is working closely with the school to deliver this.

David Perry, Headteacher of Longcroft School and Sixth Form College, commented: “A huge thank you to Graham Stuart MP for visiting Longcroft School and Sixth Form today. It was wonderful to celebrate together our children, our school and the Wonder Learning Partnership's fantastic achievements over recent years, as well as share our vision for sustained educational excellence in the locality moving forward.”

Graham Stuart said: “Every child deserves the best education possible delivered by teachers who will work tirelessly to help them achieve their goals. It’s clear from my visit to Longcroft that the pupils there are receiving that, whether it be in their art or science lessons or extra curricular trips to Cambridge University. However it could be even better and I will continue to work with their Headteacher, David Perry, East Riding Council and the Government to help the school become a full member of Wonder Learning Partnership which will propel the school from very good to great.”
