Graham Stuart MP Interviewed by RE Ambassadors at Swinemoor Primary School

Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, was interviewed by the RE Ambassadors at Swinemoor Primary during his visit to their outstanding school. 

Rated Outstanding by OFSTED in 2017, Swinemoor Primary School provides excellent lessons and extra-curricular activities to over two hundred students aged 4-11. Their Headteacher, Leon Myers, and their hardworking staff ensure the students have a range of opportunities to develop their talents by participating in activities including choir, football, dance lessons and trumpet playing. 

During his visit Graham was interviewed by the RE Ambassadors for their news broadcast, where they asked him a range of questions including why it is important to study maths to the age of 18 and whether primary school students should have a voice in Parliament.  

He also received a tour of the school with the highlight being the corporate boardroom study area. This is an area for students who earn a certain number of reward points to go to study for a period and for the school council to hold meetings in. Its purpose is to instil a feeling of aspiration and belief in the pupils that they belong in that environment when they go for interviews and meetings later in life. Encouraging aspiration and achievement is at the heart of Swinemoor Primary School, as Graham saw during the rewards assembly he attended during his visit.  

Graham was joined on his visit by Minster and Woodmansey Councillors Kerri Harold and David Elvidge, and Conservative Representatives for St Mary’s Ward Peter Stevens and Elaine Aird.  

After visiting the school, Graham Stuart said: “It was a pleasure to return to Swinemoor Primary School to meet its excellent staff and pupils. They do a superb job in ensuring their students will thrive both in their current learning and later life and I really enjoyed visiting such a positive environment. Leon and his team are great assets to our community.” 

Leon Myers, Headteacher of Swinemoor Primary School, commented: “It was wonderful to welcome Graham back to Swinemoor Primary School to show him how our staff and students are working hard to ensure everyone receives the best education possible through the lessons and extra-curricular activities we provide. Our RE Ambassadors really enjoyed asking Graham a range of interesting questions for their news broadcast. He is welcome back to Swinemoor Primary at any time.” 

Cllr David Elvidge and Cllr Kerri Harold, ward Councillors for Minster and Woodmansey, said: “We cannot thank the Swinemoor school community enough for their warm welcome. The visit was nothing short of inspirational to see the work they have been doing and the exemplary behaviour of the pupils was a credit to all concerned.”
