GDPR – one of those words that is being floated around the business circuit nearly as much as Brexit.

We may still be waiting to discover the direct impact of Brexit, but there is no getting away from the impact of the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

Experts from regional law firm, Wilkin Chapman, Humberside Police and the field of technology are joining forces for four specialist GDPR training events.

Taking place in Beverley, Grimsby, Lincoln and Louth, they will offer the most up-to-date information and advice on how to deal with the impact that GDPR will have on all businesses in May 2018.

The GDPR comes into force on May 25, 2018 and has sparked concern that many regional businesses may fall foul of the strict new rules.

Partner and Head of Employment Teresa Thomas urged businesses to understand the importance of acting now to ensure preparations are complete by the spring.

“GDPR is happening in May 2018.  The regulations will be effective from then, so organisations only have a few months to ensure they are compliant.

“There are many businesses out there that still believe they have ‘plenty of time’ or, in fact, do not think the regulations will actually apply to them,” warned Mrs Thomas, who leads Wilkin Chapman’s team in Beverley.

“People need to understand the facts from the fiction with regards to GDPR and the work required to get their houses in order,” she added.

Delegates will not only get to grips with the HR and governance implications for their business but will also hear from Steven Dennison of Humberside Police’s Cybercrime Investigation Team on the dangers of data breaches, cybercrime and how it has already affected regional businesses. The unit was formed in 2016 amid rising concern over the increasing risk of both domestic and commercial network attacks.

Finally, Daniel Westlake, Managing Director of design and technology company Cursor, will be discussing the implications of GDPR on the digital world.
