For The Love Of Paul O Grady Puppies Named In Tribute To Late Star

Puppies, Grady and Lily were born on the day Paul O’Grady sadly passed away.

In a fitting tribute to the late Paul O’ Grady, who sadly died on Tuesday 28 March, a local dog rescue has named two puppies that were born on the day of his passing after the star.

Grady and Lily, along with five siblings named Lavender, Levi, Leo, Lilac and Lucius arrived at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in North Lincolnshire just 48 hours after they were born. With their birthday coinciding with the passing of Paul, the team felt the names Grady and Lily were a perfect way to create a lasting legacy to the entertainer who devoted much of his life to raising awareness of rescue dogs.

The charity has three rescue centres in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, plus community support services across East Yorkshire. Last year they cared for over 375 dogs, relying on the generosity of their supporters in order to continue its vital work.

The story of Lady, the mother of the puppies is one that is far too common amongst rescue centres. In the days leading up to the birth of her puppies, a very kind-hearted person in the community took Lady into her care and supported her to deliver her puppies safely, with the expert advice of Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

Lady was in extremely poor condition and so underweight that it was hard to tell she was in fact heavily pregnant. Lady’s labor advanced quickly and she gave birth to 8 puppies, with one sadly stillborn before she was able to be taken into the care of Jerry Green Dog Rescue.

Once Lady had sufficiently recovered from the birth, she and all of her puppies were taken into the North Lincolnshire centre where they have all received around-the-clock care and are doing really well.

Talking about Lady and her puppies, Centre Manager, Emma Pannell said;

‘Committing to caring for Lady and all of her puppies was something we simply had to do, it is what Jerry Green Dog Rescue exists to do, to support dogs when they need us the most, so we accepted the new family without a second thought.

‘Paul had a huge impact on animal welfare organisations across the world, and his advocacy for voiceless cats and dogs was invaluable to charities like ours. These beautiful puppies were born the same day Paul sadly passed away, and so it felt only right to name one or two in his honor.’

The puppies are developing day by day, Grady is the largest of the litter and had the loudest squeak from the onset. The team say he often seems to find himself at the top of the pile of pups, so they think he’s going to be a character and they can’t wait to see his personality develop. Lily is named after Paul O’Grady’s iconic alter ego – Lily Savage. Although she is one of the smaller girls, she makes herself known and squeaks as loudly as her brother Grady.

All of the puppies will require vaccination, thorough health checks and treatment for any diagnosed issues, flea and worming treatment, and neutering once they are old enough, at a minimum. Lady will require all of the above and more. Could you sponsor one of Lady’s puppies for just £1 per week?
