Fitmums and Friends group welcomes new runners

Wed 9th April 2014

A Beverley fitness group for beginners to running would welcome new members of both sexes and all ages.

Fitmums and Friends is a local group supported in Beverley by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s public health service.
The project helps people new to running to develop and build up their fitness. It welcomes anyone; mums, dads, grandparents and friends, and uses a unique coaching technique to ensure that everyone feels supported and encouraged to keep going, with no-one left behind.

Every run session offers runs of different lengths, from one to six miles. Sessions are held on Tuesday mornings during term-time at Beverley Leisure Centre, where child-care is available, and on Thursday evenings at Longcroft Upper School.

Members at the Thursday evening session are currently supporting their leader, PC Helen Morris, who is undertaking a fundraising challenge in memory of two police constables murdered in Manchester in 2012.

Helen, who began running with the Beverley Fitmums last year, is aiming to complete 250 miles in 125 days. She said: “I can’t say all of the miles have been easy, but the pill has been sweeter knowing I can call on my brilliant Fitmums family to help me through.”

Anyone interested in joining Fitmums and Friends can get more details about the group by visiting www.fitmums.org.uk or ringing 07870 654586.
