The Laurent Perrier Style Stakes Most Stylish Hat Winner Sammy Wade

A glorious afternoon of horse racing was enjoyed by more than 11,500 race-goers attending The Journal Ladies’ Day at Beverley Racecourse yesterday. The ladies went to town, adding a touch of elegance and glamour to proceedings as they took to the catwalk, showing off their stunning summer outfits on a scorching sun filled afternoon. Fabulous fascinators, heavenly hats and designer dresses were the order of the day with the Laurent-Perrier Style Stakes. The top accolade of ‘Most Stylish Lady’ was awarded to beautifully attired Angela Edwards who won a fabulous VIP weekend for two, to the stylish city of Rome. There she will enjoy a 3 night stay at a luxurious 4 star city centre hotel - all courtesy of Humberside Airport.

The Laurent-Perrier Style Stakes ‘Most Stylish Lady’ winner, Angela Edwards, comments:- “I am thrilled to bits. I really didn’t think I had any chance of winning. I wore an ankle length dress by Susan Gillis-Brown that I thought would look nice as the weather was so lovely. We had a fabulous day, so much so - we hope to visit again this week.”

The ‘Most Stylish Hat’ was presented to super sophisticated Sammy Wade who won a fabulous prize of a bespoke hat or fascinator courtesy of Whatahat. Not to be outdone by the ladies, the men also played their part dressing up for the social event of the season with Granville Paul Orange taking home the title of ‘Most Stylish Gent.’ Granville won a top-of-the-range Mercedes, for a weekend of cruising in style, courtesy of Listers Mercedes-Benz dealers in Lincoln.

Birdcages of Laurent-Perrier's iconic Cuvée Rosé were also bestowed upon the lucky finalists. Champagne and Prosecco flowed amongst visitors celebrating the occasion but as the heat soared more than 1500 bottles of Blue Keld Rocwater were given to the crowds. Race-goers were looked after by a fantastic team of 350 bar and catering staff who ensured that the visitors enjoyed the hospitality on offer.

Kate Mckee of Beverley Racecourse comments; “The team spend so much time and effort planning and delivering the August racing season, we are always thrilled to host successful events for our customers. It is also really important for Beverley Racecourse to continue to attract visitors to the region, so that local businesses can significantly benefit from the additional trade.

We had a delightful afternoon of horseracing. All the elements came together to make it the most impressive Ladies’ Day to date. It was definitely the most stylish afternoon I have ever seen. The fashionable crowd revelled in the sunshine, enjoying the hospitality, great atmosphere and superb racing.”

The August Bank Holiday weekend sees two further racing event days. The ‘Beverley Bullet Raceday’ on Saturday 29 August is the most prestigious raceday of the season showcasing only the fastest horses and top quality racing. Or enjoy ‘A Sunday Hop’ on Sunday 30 August, a family racing event where you can enjoy a tasty cask ale accompanied by live music in the Wold Top Beer and Beverley Folk Festival. Or join in the family entertainment with funfair rides and face painting.
