Evening road closures

Wed 28th May 2014

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is advising residents, motorists and the travelling public that carriageway resurfacing works will be carried out in Lairgate and North Bar Within, in Beverley, from Monday 2 June to Thursday, 5 June.

To minimise disruption, the council’s contractor will undertake the works during the evening, from 7pm to midnight, under temporary road closures.

Signed diversions will be in place via Keldgate-Flemingate-Armstrong Way-Railway Street-New Walkergate-Manor Road-Wylies Road to allow access to North Bar Within.

Lairgate will be closed to through traffic at the junction with Champney Road, although access will be maintained to properties in Grayburn Lane. Newbegin will be closed to through traffic at the junction with St. Marys Terrace and two-way traffic will be allowed in Newbegin for residents only.

At the junction of Sow Hill Road and New Walkergate, access to the Saturday Market area will be restricted to residents, deliveries and taxis only. Traffic will exit this area under supervision via Toll Gavel and Cross Street.

Dave Waudby, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The maintenance of highways in the East Riding is a top priority for the authority and resurfacing works form part of the council’s pro-active programme to ensure the area’s roads are in the best condition long term.

“We would like to thank our residents for their patience and understanding whilst these works are carried out. Every effort will be made to keep any disruption to a minimum.”

Residents with any questions about the works can contact Alistair Martin, assistant principal engineer, on 01482 395638.
